Kathua police recovers bag containing gun powder

KATHUA, Mar 5: Hiranagar police has recovered a polythene packet contained Gun Powder in Panj Grain, Muthi Charu in the jurisdiction of Border Police Post (BPP) Sherpur.
Police said information was received from the Border Police Post (BPP) Sherpur regarding a suspicious polythene packet lying in village Panj Grain. Upon receiving the information, the Special Operations Group (SOG) team, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Operations, Kathua, promptly arrived at the location. The Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Border along with SHO PS Hiranagar also joined the efforts.

Upon inspection, it was determined that the bag contained gun powder commonly used by farmers to protect their crops from wild animals, police said.
The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) Kathua team was called to verify the contents, and they confirmed that it is for agricultural use. The gun powder was then safely disposed off at the location, police said.
Local residents further confirmed the authenticity of the substance, stating it is regularly used by farmers for crop protection against wildlife, police said.
Moreover Kathua Police refuted the possibility of infiltration or the dropping of high density explosives across the border whereas the further investigation is under process.
