Kathua police seizes 20 gms of heroin, 10 bovine animals

KATHUA, July 19: Kathua police arrested a drug peddler and seized 20 grams of heroin from his possession yesterday during patrolling.
A police party of Police Station Kathua and PP Hatli headed by Inspector, Anil Kumar Sharma, SHO P/S Kathua and SI Varinder Singh, I/C PP Hatli acting on specific information while on patrolling duty intercepted one person namely Sonu Kumar S/o Jagdish Chander R/o Sakta Chak tehsil & district Kathua at Ward No. 14, Sawan Chak near Gurdwara and recovered 20 gm of  heroin during his personal search.
The accused person was arrested on spot and a Case FIR No.212/2017 U/S 8/21/22 NDPS Act stands registered at P/S Kathua and investigation is set into motion.
It may be recalled that District Police  Kathua has launched  a staunch drive against the drug abuse to make the society free of drugs so that  the people of the  town  are rid of the drug menace once for all. Earlier also at number of occasions police has seized huge quantity of drugs from the drug peddlers .
The drive was carried out under the close supervision of  S.S. Sambyal, DySP Hqrs. Kathua and overall supervision of Mohd. Suleman Choudhary, SSP Kathua.
Meanwhile, Kathua Police has also seized 10 bovine animals which were being smuggled to Kashmir valley during the intervening night of July 17 and 18..
Police said on the basis of an information  received through reliable sources at P/S Kathua that about 10 bovine animals were being taken on foot by some unknown smugglers towards safer place for further smuggling to Kashmir Valley, various police teams were fanned out in different locations. The police parties succeeded in recovering the bovine animals but the smugglers who were taking the animals fled away on seeing the police party by taking the advantage of darkness. The investigation has been set in motion. A manhunt has also been launched to nab the accused persons.  A case FIR No.210/2017 U/S 188 RPC was registered and investigations started in PS Kathua.
In this case the bovine smugglers attempted to change their modus operandi by taking the bovine animals on foot to safer places where they could load the animals on trucks for further smuggling to Kashmir but their attempt was foiled by the alert Police of Kathua headed by SHO P/S Kathua Inspector. Anil Kumar Sharma.
The drive was carried out under the supervision of  S.S. Sambyal, DySP Hqrs. Kathua and overall supervision of Mohd. Suleman Choudhary-, SSP, Kathua.
