Kathua police seizes 60 bottles of liquor, arrests 2

KATHUA, May 28: Kathua police once again acting tough against the consumption and production of illicit liquor menace in the district, under the overall supervision of SSP Kathua, R C Kotwal- today recovered 60 more bottles of illicit liquor in the district, arrested three persons and seized two vehicles in this connection.
Police said a team of Police Station (PS) Lakhanpur led by Inspector, Sumeet Sharma, SHO under the supervision of DySP DAR Kathua, Sukhdev Singh during naka checking duty in its jurisdictional area intercepted one auto load carrier bearing registration No. PB06AX-3719. During checking 24 bottles of Black Horn XXX Rum Punjab Excise Whisky were recovered from the possession of accused namely Gagandeep Kumar, son of Gorkhi Ram of RSD Colony, Jugial Tehsil and district Kathua which were stealthily hidden in the straw loaded in the vehicle.
Meanwhile, all the recovered consignment of illicit liquor and vehicle were seized while the accused was arrested. In this regard, a case FIR No 73/2021 u/s 50(1) Excise Act has been registered at PS Lakhanpur and investigation was taken up.
While in another instance police team of PS Kathua led by Inspector, Vijay Kumar under the supervision of DySP Headquarters Kathua, Shammi Kumar – today intercepted one vehicle (Eco Van) bearing Registration Number JK02BK-5256 which was directed to stop for checking. On checking, 36 bottles of MC Dowell’s Whisky were recovered from the possession of two persons namely Sunil Kumar son of Bihari Lal of New Basti Gandhi Nagar, Jammu and other person namely Ajay Singh son of Swarn Singh of Chakra Kathua. Thus overall 60 bottles of illicit liquor were recovered, three persons arrested and two vehicles were seized.
A case FIR No. 264 /2021 U/S 50 Excise Act, 188/IPC has been registered at Kathua Police Station and further investigation is going on.
