KATHUA, July 23: Foiling a major bid of smuggling banned drugs, Kathua police today seized a huge quantity of contraband items at Lakhanpur near, here which were being smuggled from Punjab to Kashmir valley and arrested two narcotic smugglers on spot.
In a decisive action against drug menace, Kathua police succeeded in foiling an attempt of smuggling drugs valuing Rs one crore approximately from Punjab to Bijbeharra, in South Kashmir district of Anantnag which were loaded in a goods truck. The police recovered 1,91,520 tablets of Proxy Von Plus capsules and 28,800 bottles of Win Cirex drugs packed in 240 boxes from the truck hidden under grocery material.

Disclosing this to media persons at a hurriedly called press conference, later SSP Kathua, Shailendra Misra said that a police team of Police Station, Lakhanpur on specific information laid a Naka checking at new Toll Plaza Lakhanpur led by Sub-Inspector, Sikander Chouhan under the supervision of Inspector, Sanjeev Chib, SHO Police Station, Lakhanpur and intercepted one truck bearing Registration Number PB12N-3721 which was coming from Punjab and was on its way to Bijebehara in South Kashmir district of Anantnag.
The SSP said that during the checking 240 Nos. of cardboard cartoons , each cartoon containing 120 bottles of “WINCIREX” cough syrup with a total 28,800 bottles of 100/100 ML and 191520 Nos. of “SPASMO-PROXYVON-PLUS” capsules stealthily hidden under the soap cartoons were found laden in the truck which were being smuggled from Ludhiana, Punjab to Bijbehara in Anatnag district of South Kashmir.
The truck was driven by Balbir Singh alias Beeri, S/o Chaman Lal R/o Hedon Bet, Tehsil Samrala district Ludhiana, Punjab along with his associate Sham Lal, S/o Kewal Krishan also of Hedon Bet, Tehsil Samrala district Ludhiana, Punjab. Both the accused persons were arrested and vehicle so involved was also seized by the police, the SSP added.
Shailendra Misra further said that Kathua police is striving hard and taking every possible step to make people especially youth aware of the drug menace and its ill effects on the society. He said investigation in this regard is going on so that police can lay hands on the kingpin who is running the racket of smuggling drugs in the J&K from Punjab. He said a case FIR No. 67/2020 U/S 8/21/22 NDPS Act stands registered at Police Station, Lakhanpur against the arrested persons and the investigation is under process to nab the kingpin.
