JAMMU, Feb 15: The irate bus operators of Jammu- Kathua Group held a protest demonstration and blocked the Jammu -Pathankote National Highway near Hotel Asia for half an hour in protest against the traffic police decision not to allow the buses from Kathua to cross Tawi bridge.
The protest was led by Rashpal Singh, Manager Kathua Bus Operators Group. The protestors shouting slogans against the Traffic Police demanded that buses plying on Kathua route be allowed to cross the Tawi bridge.
They accused the Traffic police of highhandedness saying that traffic cops neither allow the buses cross the Tawi bridge via Bikram Chowk nor Asia and once a bus will not cross the Tawi bridge how can it take passengers to Kathua, they asked.
The protestors said that the crossing at Bikram Chowk has been already closed after the starting of construction on fly over hence bus operators have no alternative except crossing the Tawi bridge and return via Dogra Chowk on their way to Kathua.
However later, on the intervention of SSP Traffic, SP South and DySP Gandhi Nagar they lifted the road blockade. The officers assured them that the issue will be sorted out within four -five days.
