Katra citizens’ delegation calls on Governor

JAMMU, Mar 1: A delegation of prominent citizens of Katra town led by Sher Singh, met Governor N. N. Vohra, Chairman of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, at the Raj Bhavan here today.
B. B. Vyas, Financial Commissioner, Planning and Development and Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister and Ajeet Kumar Sahu, Chief Executive Officer of the Shrine Board, participated in the meeting.
The delegation apprised the Governor about their demands relating to the development of the Katra town and sought Shrine Board’s larger participation and support in improving the civic amenities, including improved sanitation, augmentation of drinking water supply, development of wayside facilities, bringing further improvement in street lights and illumination of chowks etc.
Other demands projected by the delegation included renovation of old Darshani Deodi and development of Shankaracharya Temple in Katra.
The Governor observed that several important decisions have been taken relating to development of Katra Municipality and surrounding areas at the high level meeting taken by him and the Chief Minister on February 17 at Raj Bhavan, adding that several important development issues of Katra town and its surrounding areas had been conclusively addressed in this meeting.
Governor directed the CEO of the Shrine Board to install water purifiers at suitable locations in the Katra town. The delegation was informed that all their concerns relating to the improvement of the basic facilities in Katra town had already been taken care through different developmental schemes envisaged by the Shrine Board and further action will be taken to meet the developmental aspirations of the people of the area.
The delegation also raised the issue of the link to connect with New Tarakote Track and highlighted the need of taking all stakeholders on board before starting the track. Governor assured the delegation that a committee headed by Dr. S. S. Bloeria, Board Member will soon visit the site to examine all aspects of this issue to take a decision.
The Governor directed the CEO of the Shrine Board to take up work on the renovation of old Darshani Deodi in Katra town on urgent basis and do whatever is required for the development of Shankaracharya Temple in Katra for the benefit of pilgrims and the local population.
The delegation comprised Mulkh Raj, former Chairman Katra Municipal Committee; Ramesh Goswami, President Ban Ganga; Manohar Lal Sharma, President Trade Association, Katra; Jagdish Verma President Commerce Association and Pt.. Shankar Dass.
