Katra hoteliers stage dharna against PDD

KATRA, Mar 26:  To lodge protest against power cuts in the holy town and snapping of electricity connections of some people by PDD, members of Hotel and Restaurant Association Katra, observed a dharna in front of Electricity M&RE office, here today.
The dharna was lifted only after the Supertending Engineer Batote and Executive Engineer Udhampur personally intervened into the matter and assured that within few days their genuine demands would be taken care.
Earlier, addressing the dharna, president of the Association, Sham Lal Kesar said that feeders supplying electricity to the hoteliers and allied people are fully metered but the Electric Department was still resorting to power cuts. He also criticized the department for cutting electricity connection of the people without informing them reason for the same.
Rakesh Wazir, senior vice-president of the Association, while speaking on the occasion, said that despite Finance Minister’s announcement during budget speech that all dues and surcharges would be waived off if the balance outstanding is paid upto March 31, the department was not entertaining such cases on the pretext that they have not received the orders as yet.
Those who sat on dharna included Shiv Kumar Sharma, Ashu Magotra, Sham Sharma, Virender Kesar, Awtar Suri, Sher Singh, Kuldeep Dubey, Abdul Rashid, Shyam Lal Padha, Vijay Jamwal, Shyam Sharma, Sunil Dogra, Vishal Sharma, Rattan Sharma and others.
Before observing the dharna, the Association delegation also met the PHE officials and discussed with them the acute shortage of water.
