Katra is fast developing as a pilgrim town with many civic facilities and appendages needed to meet the great rush of visitors. The Shrine Board wants Katra to be a neat and clean town in view of huge rush of pilgrims to the holy shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi. Its infrastructural development is of much concern to the Shrine Board and the Governor as well who is also Chairman of the Board. Mata Vaishno Devi University is already functional and according to the reports, the 235-bed hospital is also under contemplation in Katra. Additionally, the Shrine Board has the plan of opening a Medical College and a Nursing College in due course of time. With these big developmental plans in hand, the Shrine Board is keen that road connectivity, meaning internal roads, should also be improved and extended to give a good look to the town. Links of inner roads with the National Highway is of much importance. The University campus needs to be connected to the Highway. Among the link roads more prominent ones brought under purview in a recent meeting of the Board under the chairmanship of the Governor are University with National Highway-1A at Jhajjar Manthal; upgrading of approach road from Railway Station Katra to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University via Nangal, and upgrading of approach road from National Highway 1A to Panthal via Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University. The purpose of improving these link roads is twofold. One is to provide connectivity to the localities and people living in the areas and the second is to make access to the University easy and hassle free. The University needs to be well connected with the National Highway.
