JAMMU, Dec 5: Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta, today criticized the National Conference’s (NC) demand to restore the holiday on the birth anniversary of Sheikh Abdullah in Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory.
In a statement issued here, today the BJP leader asserted that the newly formed National Conference (NC) Government should focus its efforts on addressing the pressing concerns of the common people, including employment, health, and infrastructure, rather than resurrecting symbolic gestures of the past. He stressed that the priority of any responsible Government should be to provide tangible solutions to the problems that affect the day-to-day lives of citizens.
The senior BJP leader pointed out that for over 65 years, several communities, including the Gorkhas, refugees, and Safai Karamcharis, had been subjected to gross discrimination, under the successive regimes headed by the National Conference (NC) and Congress. He emphasized that these marginalized groups were deprived of basic rights and opportunities under the garb of Article 370, and it was only with the change in political leadership that some of these issues have been addressed.
The former Deputy Chief Minister advised the NC Government to prioritize the welfare of the people of Jammu and Kashmir by focusing on issues concerning general public rather than reviving outdated, divisive policies. He further asked the NC Government to move beyond symbolic gestures and take concrete steps to address the real challenges faced by the people, thereby contributing to a brighter and more prosperous future for the entire region.
