Asks youth to shun drug abuse

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Jan 24: Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta today asked youth of J&K to become meaningful citizens rather than falling prey to drug abuse and becoming redundant constituents of the society.
The BJP leader said this after inaugurating a Disha Neuropsychiatry & De-addiction Centre here at Gadigarh. Former Health Minister, Bali Bhagat also accompanied Kavinder Gupta on the occasion.
Kavinder Gupta maintained that substance abuse eats up the vitals of society and therefore it is the responsibility of all the stakeholders to make sure that today’s youths do not indulge in such activities which make their life rudderless. Citing example of neighbouring State, where drug problem has crossed all the limits, he said that it is imperative for all of us to work together and eradicate the growing menace, which has started spreading its tentacles in both urban and rural hamlets and among poor and elite.
Kavinder said that still there is time to save the society from this threat. What is required is that people should keep an eye on their wards to ensure that they do not go astray and fell in the traps of drug mafia. He maintained that though police and other agencies are on toes to nab the dealers of drugs but the onus of keeping our sons and daughters away from substance abuse still lies with families. He hoped that the De-addiction Centre at Gadigarh will prove beneficial in eradicating this menace and helping youth to become nation builders rather than becoming ‘useless constituents’ of society as drugs make the youth dependant, incapable to face the challenges and even take away their life.
Later, the BJP leader also distributed Ayushman Bharat cards under J&K UT’s Sehat Scheme to beneficiaries of the area. He handed over Ayushman Bharat Golden cards to the residents of Ward No 50 Channi Himmat. Speaking on the occasion he said that Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has launched number of schemes and programmes to ensure public welfare and uplift the poor strata of the society.
He exhorted the people to take maximum benefits of several welfare schemes launched by Modi Government.
Among others who were present included Mayor JMC Chander Mohan Gupta, BJP district president, Vinay Gupta, Gandhi Nagar Mandal president and Corporator Lucky Puri and Rajesh Jandial Co-Incharge Ayushman Bharat district Rajouri.
