NEW DELHI, May 5: Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta here, today met Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, and Housing and Urban Affairs and sought development package for Katra and Udhampur.
Highlighting the issue of rising population in J&K, Kavinder urged the Union Housing and Urban Minister to come up with new colonies in the UT of J&K to resolve the issue of affordable housing as the population boom has made it difficult for the people to own their homes in the urban hamlets thus mounting pressure on Government to ensure other facilities like public convenience, night shelters, etc.
BJP’s senior functionary from the Union Territory, Kavinder Gupta also discussed the present scenario of Jammu and Kashmir with Union Minister, H S Puri. He said that post abrogation of Article 370, the UT is moving apace on the development trail as number of projects which were languishing since decades have been completed and dedicated to the people of the UT and several others have been launched to make the life of the people of Jammu and Kashmir more meaningful as they were subjected to step-motherly treatment for the last over 70 years due to phlegmatic attitudes of the successive governments led by dynastic political outfits like NC, PDP, etc.
The former Deputy Chief Minister said that the inception of AIIMS, IIT, IIM and many other institutions in the UT of J&K is the testimony to the fact that the BJP Government is focused on developing J&K into a model unit of the New India envisaged by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. He said that presently the J&K is passing under the renaissance period as the development works are going on day and night. “Soon the UT will be transformed into the most developed region of the country as vowed by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and is being witnessed by the people of Jammu and Kashmir”, Kavinder said, adding that Katra and Udhampur need added attention because despite being closer to Winter Capital Jammu, there are certain aspects in which these places are still lagging despite heavy footfall of tourists in the Jammu region and therefore a special development package is the need of the time.
Showing keen interest in the details being discussed by Kavinder Gupta, the Union Minister appreciated the senior BJP leader from J&K for providing the insightful account of the requirements of the people. He assured that sooner than later, his Ministry will come up with a proposal to mitigate the issues and problems of the people and also make provision for a development package for the aforesaid places.
