JAMMU, Oct 29: Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta today urged the Government to ensure proper rehabilitation of the shopkeepers affected by the National Highway widening project at Satwari and Nai Basti areas.
While interacting with the affected shopkeepers here, today Kavinder said that no doubt the project is of national importance and the same cannot be stopped or shifted but at the same time, rehabilitation of the people earning their livelihood in the places coming under the NH widening project since ages is also responsibility of the Government and therefore the people at helm should make it sure that none among the affected lot loses his or her livelihood.
He advised the Government to relocate the shopkeepers by providing substitute shops as the scope for making additional shops in the affected area is near impossible.
It is pertinent to mention that the affected shopkeepers had approached the BJP leader sometime back and apprised him of the difficulty which they were facing as their shops have come under the National Highway widening project.
Kavinder has assured the visiting shopkeepers to highlight their issue before the concerned quarters.
Pertinently, Kavinder has now come up with a practical solution to this issue as development projects of national interests are supposed to be accomplished therefore relocation of the affected shopkeepers is the only viable solution thus the BJP leader has batted for the same. He said that the Government should ensure that the livelihood of the affected shopkeepers should remain unaffected and no one suffers on account of this project of national interest.
