JAMMU, Mar 20: Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta has called for an extension of the deadline for disbursing financial assistance to families displaced from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) and Chhamb.
In a statement, Kavinder said, many eligible families have missed out on the Rs 5.5 lakh one-time financial aid due to missing or incomplete documents.
He said a delegation led by Captain Yudhvir Singh, President of PoJK Non-Camp Displaced Persons (DP) Families of Chhamb 1971, met him at the BJP Party Headquarters in Jammu.
According to him, the delegation raised concerns about the March 20, 2025 deadline, which has left many families without support due to difficulties in meeting documentary requirements.
Gupta acknowledged the hardships faced by these families and emphasized the importance of addressing their issues with compassion.
He called for alternative records to be accepted as valid proof, ensuring that deserving families receive the financial assistance they are entitled to.
Gupta also reminded that it was the Modi Government that first recognized the suffering of these displaced families and approved the aid.
Assuring the delegation that he would take up the matter with the concerned authorities, Gupta advocated for a further extension of the deadline.
He stressed that bureaucratic hurdles should not prevent displaced families from receiving the aid meant for their rehabilitation.
