JAMMU, Apr 23: KC Public School, Jammu and RM College of Education celebrated Earth Day by organizing different programmes at their respective institutions, here today.
KC Public School celebrated Earth Week rather than Earth Day from April 16 to April 23, 2013.
During the Earth Week, the students of Green Brigade Club were given a research project on how restaurants could get greener. Five students went to Press Club Jammu to have an interaction with Manager and other officials, which was an enriching experience for them. The theme of Earth Day 2013 ‘The Face of Climate Change’ was also taken up by the students in the form of video presentations.
The students of Class VIIth visited the banks of Tawi during the Earth Week and created photo essays on environmental problems and solutions related to the river.
Earlier, the students and teachers of both wings of the school went around the school campus collecting litter and depositing it into waste bins.
The week long activities culminated today in the form of special assemblies in both wings of the school presenting songs, dances and skits.
The programme started with Earth Day prayer and ended with Earth Day pledge.
Meanwhile, RM College of Education organized a plantation drive in the college premises to celebrate the day with enthusiasm and fervour.
Over 200 plants of different varieties were planted on this occasion.
The programme was inaugurated by chairman of the College, Rameshwar Mengi and I D Soni, Commissioner Bharat Scouts and Guides by planting sapling in the College premises.
Principal of the College, P K Dhar formally welcomed the guests and threw light on the importance of earth and highlighted the importance of plants for the animals and other creatures including human beings.
Rita Mengi also spoke on the occasion, while the programme was coordinated and compeered by Rajneesh Kour, lecturer in Education.
