Srinagar, May 23:  Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) today blamed the Customs and Excise Department for putting hurdles in export of the handicrafts from the Kashmir by not permitting the goods which are not in the list of Documents against Acceptance (DA).
President KCCI, Sheikh Ashiq Ahmad, told reporters the department is deliberately putting hurdles in the export of Kashmiri handicrafts.
“Kashmiri traders are suffering because Customs and Excise officials are not permitting our products under the DA. Their officials make claims that the goods and products are coming under the notice of in which certain products and deleted under the DA,” Ahmad said.
He said the notification of Ministry of Commerce and Industry was being misinterpreted by the officials in the Srinagar who are not allowing the products invoking DA.
“We are not able to ship our products on our destination. We have failed to understand when the same products can be exported from Delhi or other cities why not from Kashmir,” he said.
Other KCCI members also said there are some deliberate attempts to discourage the exports from Kashmir due to which the trade is showing discouraging trends.
“We are not achieving our targets. You can see last year we could only export Rs 1000 crore from here to other ports. There is sheer injustice with us to spoil our trade,” Musadiq Shah, a member of KCCI, said.
