SRINAGAR, May 30: The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) Executive Committee, led by President Javed Ahmad Tenga, held an extensive meeting with Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, at the Chamber office.
The meeting, attended by various trade association leaders from uptown and Shehre Khas, also included Senior Superintendent of Police, Traffic, Muzaffar Shah.
As per a statement, the discussion covered a wide range of issues affecting the region, including problems at Polo View Market, Residency Road, Lal Chowk, and Hari Singh High Street.
Key concerns addressed were parking woes, road and footpath conditions in Shehre Khas, fire fighting systems, Smart City projects, traffic management, and city decongestion.
The discussion also touched on non-functional drainage, inadequate public washrooms, the public transport system, arrangements for the Amarnath Yatra, and restrictions on tourist movement.
Additional issues included the renewal of tourism registration certificates for hotels and related businesses, the need for a tourist pick-up/drop facility at Boulevard, permissions for hospitality sector renovations, tourist destination capacities, and ease of doing business with a single-window system.
Handicrafts, export issues, and quick allotment of warehousing space were also discussed.
Environmental concerns were highlighted, including the conservation of natural resources, the poor state of wetlands, solid waste management, and the disposal of waste into wetlands and water bodies.
Flood prevention measures and the establishment of a joint tourism consultative committee were also proposed.
SSP Traffic Muzaffar Shah mentioned that automatic traffic signals would soon be operational to streamline traffic. He stated that despite increased on-road traffic, measures are being taken to improve vehicular movement and commuting. He acknowledged the severe parking issues in Srinagar and the need for solutions.
Divisional Commissioner Bidhuri took note of the issues and asked KCCI to submit a comprehensive report.
He mentioned that tenders for water transport operations in Jhelum and Dal Lake have been floated to alleviate traffic woes.
He assured that the raised issues would be seriously considered.
The meeting concluded with the KCCI team felicitating the Divisional Commissioner and the SSP Traffic, thanking them for their ongoing support and their commitment to addressing the concerns raised.
