KCCI holds meeting with SMC Commissioner

Srinagar, Oct 6: Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) today said that it held a detailed interaction with Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Commissioner Dr Shafqat Khan here. The meeting was chaired by KCCI president Javed Ahmad Tenga and was also attended by the representatives of the Poloview Association, Residency Road and the Bund Businessmen Association, Fairdeal Market Association, Lambert Lane Association, Regal Chowk Association, Hari Singh High Street Association and Batamaloo Association.
“The meeting had been convened on the request of the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry to provide an opportunity to the stakeholders and associations of the area to exchange their views on the various proposals of facade lifting, beautification, traffic diversions, parking, garbage disposal, conditions of drains and footpaths, installation of lights and other activities being carried out by the Srinagar Municipal Corporation,” said a Chamber statement.
The representatives of various markets voiced their concerns over the proposal for closing of the Polo View Market, said the KCCI, adding that the consensus, amongst the stakeholders, was that before any further action was taken in this regard, proper support base and alternative capacity building needed to take place in the area.
“The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry appreciated the efforts at beautification of the city but at the same time also cautioned about the need for addressing the functionality of the beautification drive and also taking care of basic amenities like sewerage and drainage,” the Chamber statement said.
Dr Shafqat Khan appreciated the concerns of the business community and appealed to them to work collectively to make the city of Srinagar beautiful and clean, the statement said, adding that he also stressed on the need for responsible disposal of garbage.
