SRINAGAR, May 1: The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCC&I) today said that it has raised the matter of recovery/penalty notices issued by the organization during a meeting with the Commissioner of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) for J&K, Rizwan Uudin.
In a statement issued here, the KCC&I said that the meeting was attended by various stakeholders and KCC&I office bearers, with the Enforcement Officer of the EPFO in Kashmir accompanying the commissioner.
The stakeholders, KCC&I said, expressed their grievances over the penalty/recovery notices issued under Section 14(B) of the EPF&MFACT and explained that the default or delay in payment and filing of relevant returns was caused “by the restrictions imposed on public life in the state following the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019, followed by the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The Commissioner, the trade body said, listened to the stakeholders and advised them on the applicability and implications of the relevant rules for persisting non-compliance with the Act, while suggesting that a proper representation be made to the concerned ministry for a waiver of the penalties.
KCC&I said that it is currently working on the details of the representation to be addressed to the concerned ministry for favourable consideration, as advised by the Commissioner EPFO.
“The meeting is expected to help resolve the issues faced by the KCC&I members registered with the EPFO regarding recovery/penalty notices.”
