Srinagar, Feb 2: The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) today raised trade, commerce, and industry concerns in a special meeting with Commissioner Taxes, P. L. Bhat.
Led by Secretary General Faiz Ahmad Bakshi, the KCCI team, including Fayaz Ahmad (Alfa), Sardar Rajwant Singh, and Abid Hussain Pandita, presented issues dating back to the 2014 floods and unresolved matters under the VAT and GST regime.
While welcoming the recent pre-GST Amnesty Scheme, KCCI emphasized the need for its application to benefit both smaller and larger amnesty seekers.
The trade body also stressed the importance of taxpayer awareness and the interpretation of GST Act provisions.
The Commissioner was urged to foster a friendly relationship between the Department and taxpayers, addressing complaints.
KCCI on the occasion demanded an end to the raid system, advocating respectful treatment for the tax-paying business community.
The presentation highlighted pre-GST and post-GST unresolved issues, including discrepancies in GST tax returns, tax mismatches, and non-reimbursement by Government Departments to suppliers/contractors.
Commissioner Bhat, KCCI said, assured that there would be no harassment by officials, encouraging the reporting of any such complaints.
He pledged to address matters within his jurisdiction and work to raise concerns with the GST Council, while acknowledging that some issues were national and hoped for their resolution in the future.
