Srinagar, Feb 11: Ahead of the Budget, the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) today submitted a structured roadmap to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, aimed at reviving businesses in J&K and increasing employment opportunities.
The trade body delegation-led by senior vice president, Ashiq Hussain Shangloo, secretary general Faiz Bakshi, and past president Mushtaq Ahmad Wani-attended a pre-budget consultation meeting with the CM.
The KCCI’s proposals focused on actionable steps to address long-standing economic challenges in J&K, targeting both traditional industries and emerging sectors.
“The roadmap highlighted solutions to enhance industrial productivity, support local enterprises, and create an ecosystem conducive to entrepreneurship and innovation.”
Prior to the meeting with the CM, Shangloo held extensive discussions with senior Government officials, including the Commissioner Secretary of Industries and Commerce, DG Codes Finance Department, DG Budget, and GeM Coordinator J&K.
“The discussions revolved around budget-related policies and the alignment of financial resources to support industrial growth and business development,” the Chamber stated.
They emphasized the critical importance of environmental sustainability, highlighting key areas such as wetlands conservation, the development of playgrounds, and the enhancement of tourism opportunities.
“Detailed discussions also focused on sustainable practices in agriculture and horticulture, underscoring the need for innovative approaches that align with ecological preservation.”
KCCI’s submission highlighted key priorities for J&K’s economic revival, including job creation, private sector promotion, and skill development.
It also pitched for reviving the handicrafts sector with export incentives and an International Exhibition Mart; boosting tourism through infrastructure development, eco-tourism, and global promotion; and enhancing agriculture via horticulture expansion, cold storage, and organic produce.
The trade body further called for revitalizing industries through policy reforms, simplified processes, and the revival of sick units.
The KCCI also underscored the need for NPA relief and amnesty schemes while advocating for sector-specific growth in agriculture, services, industry, tourism, trade, and finance through stable policies, PPPs, and digital infrastructure.
