JAMMU, Dec 7: Displaced community of Kashmir Hindus place on record its pleasure, on reservation of two seats for the migrant community in Assembly.
Addressing a press conference here, today former MLC, Girdhari Lal Raina and BJP Kashmir Displaced District (KDD) president, Chandji Bhat accompanied by co-incharge KDD, H L Bhat and general secretary, H K Razdan termed it a historic step.
Complimenting the Modi Government for the decision they said this move is historic as well as futuristic. This remarkable step has put an end to the manipulated marginalization and exclusion of the religious minorities of Kashmir. It empowers the community politically and will help restore its political legacy in the Kashmir Valley, they added.
The displaced community reminds that in the first election held after the State’s accession to Union of India minority community of Kashmir was able to send four representatives to State Legislature. But successive governments headed by political parties with divisive agenda manipulated delimitation of territorial constituencies in such a manner as would render the minority community politically ineffective and without their legitimate representatives in elected form.
With passage of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Amendment Bill which seeks to nominate two members from the Kashmir migrant community and one representing the displaced persons from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) to the legislative Assembly, this discrimination has been put to an end.
Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, senior BJP & KP leader welcomed the approval of the Lok Sabha to the J&K Reorganisation Amendment Bill 2023 which provides two nominated seats to the displaced people of Kashmir and one seat to the displaced people of Pak-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) in the Legislative Assembly of J&K.
In a statement he termed it as a historical move that has proved the positive intent of the Government of India towards the displaced people of Kashmir and the PoJK. While it is the political recognition of the socio-cultural existence of the Kashmiri Pandits in J&K as the indegenous people, it also reiterates the concept that Kashmir is incomplete without Kashmiri Pandits.
Chrungoo, said the five-year old struggle right from 2018 in this context was focussed on getting the representatives of the displaced community in the Legislative Assembly of J&K with the help of the required statutory provision which the Parliament now has made.
Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC), president Kundan Kashmiri while expressing satisfaction over the legislation, however sought a clarification from the Government that whether the two seats will be nominated by political parties among their activists or common community activists.
Kashmiri Khatri Hindu Maha Sabha chairman, Ramesh Chander has also complimented the Government for the decision and said this way justice has been given to displaced people from Valley.
Panun Kashmir (PK) president, Virender Raina also complimented Modi Government for the decision saying the five year long struggle launched by his organisation in this regard has yielded fruit. He said it is a significant step for the empowerment of the community.
BJP Mahila Morcha chief spokesperson, Ritika Trehan while commenting on the passage of the Bill said Modi Government has provided justice to those sections of society who were deprived of their rights for 70 years.
