Srinagar, Sept 7: Miffed at Government for imposing restrictions to thwart their protest, the valley-based Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA) – which is seeking rehabilitation of September 2014 floods victims, is now mulling to protest in National Capital.
A faction of KEA headed by Showkat Chowdhary today condemned the Government’s restrictions and crackdown to thwart their protest and said that now they are planning to move towards New Delhi to “pressurize” Government to rehabilitate the deluge victims in general and business community in particular.
“We are planning to protest at Jantar Mantar to pressurize Government so that the people of valley are rehabilitated,” Chowdhary told Excelsior. He said the KEA would hold a meeting of its members in coming days to chalk out the future strategy.
Muhammad Yasin Khan, the chairman of parallel KEA faction and Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Faction (KTMF), condemned the restrictions imposed by Government to thwart their proposed programme. He slammed the Government and accused them of “celebrating the destruction” of traders.
Khan said that the today’s crackdown and restrictions on trade community put a question mark on the claims of Government being democratic. “They claim to be democratic but the way they cracked down on us raise doubts,” he said.
Referring to the financial package announced by Prime Minister Modi for the flood victims of Bihar, he asked: “Why are they applying dual yardstick when it comes to this region?”
