Keep separate budget for agriculture sector: Ashok

JAMMU, May 22: Former legislator and chairman of All Jammu and Kashmir Kissan Union (AJKKU) Ashok Sharma has demanded separate budget for the agriculture sector.
Addressing meeting of AJKKU here today, chairman of the Union expressed serious concern over the plight of the farming community. The meeting discussed all the issues pertaining to the overall development of the farmers.
The Kissan leader demanded separate Agriculture budget on the pattern of the Railway budget, cattle and crop insurance and supply of ration of CAPD  on the old pattern besides compensation to the farmers against losses due to flood and hailstorm.
Mr Sharma showed anguish over the arbitrary and discriminatory attitude of the Government towards the farmer community as the Government has failed to watch the interest of the farmers in the State.
In the meeting, it was unanimously decided that ad-hoc Block and District Committees headed by their respective conveners will be constituted consisting of  11 members Block Committee and 15 members District Committee till such Block enrolls 5 delegates and District enrolls 15 delegates. On achieving the target of 10 delegates in Block and 25 in District, the designation of convener will be changed to president.
The full-fledge Block Committee requires at least 25 delegates in Block and 50 in the District as per the Constitution. This interim arrangement will be made till the membership drive concludes on  December 31, 2016, Mr Sharma added.
Among those who spoke on the occasion in the meeting included Zahid Malik, Abrar Ahmad Khan, Pritam Singh, Ch Bagga Khan, Vijay Sharma, Satish Chander Chibber,  Shubam Sharma, Arjun Sharma, Kailash Nath and K R Dogra.
