Keeping family tradition alive, Kargil martyr’s son joins Army

JAMMU, July 26: With spirit of serving the nation high in him, the son of another Kargil martyr has joined the Indian Army to keep the highest traditions of country alive.
Satwinder Singh, the elder son of 1999 Kargil martyr Lakhvinder Singh joined the Indian army to send a message across the nation that the spirit of serving the nation is in the blood of the family and he will continue this legacy.
Seeking an inspiration from the supreme sacrifices of his father, Lakhvinder Singh who laid down his life while fighting the enemy at Tiger Hills during Kargil war in 1999,Satwinder Singh wants every countryman should feel proud of his family for whom nation’s pride is above all.
Shanker Singh grand father of Satwinder Singh whose son attained martyrdom in Kargil war has sent his grand son to safeguard the borders of the nation. His another grand son is also in the race to join the army. The grandfather, grand mother and mother of Satwinder Singh said what could be the greatest tribute to the martyr that his son has joined army. No where in world such a spirit among the people would have been seen where after the supreme sacrifice of the father his children will keep the family tradition alive to serve Army to make their countrymen will feel proud of them.
From the border village of Sarthi Khurd in Samba district, Shanker Singh’s son Lakhvinder Singh was a Jawan in Sikh Regiment of Indian Army and after the Kargil war broke out he was sent to Tiger Hills where after taking on Pak Army boldly, he laid down his life for defending his motherland. This was a big shock for the family but Shanker Singh did not let the family tradition to break and he as well his wife Kuljeet Kour imbibed the spirit of patriotism among their grand sons. They narrated the daring devil stories of their son to their two grandsons. The wife of martyr Lakhwinder Singh, Baljit Kour also narrated the daring tales of her husband to her two sons. It is because of this spirit of surrender and sacrifice that Satwinder Singh has joined the Sikh Regiment of Indian Army.
Following the footsteps of his father, Satwinder has now dedicated himself to the service of the nation and his younger brother Parvinder Singh is also trying to get recruited in the Army.
Shanker Singh had three sons and all of them have served in Army. While his eldest sons Lakhvinder Singh attained martyrdom in Kargil, his another son who was also in army died in harness while his third son, Omkar Singh is serving 13 Sikh Regiment this time. Father of Shanker Singh, Veer Singh was also a jawan of JAK Rifle who inspired his grandson Lakhvinder Singh to join army.
