JAMMU, Sept 15: The call of the profession does not stop a doctor from attending his patents even if the doctor has relinquished his profession.
This came to light when Dr Jitendra Singh Minister of State in PMO with independent charge of North Eastern States who is also a nationally known diabetologist visited hundreds of kilometers despite his busiest schedule at Union Capital and examined his old patients here.
Sparing time from his busy schedule in PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh kept his date with Shakti Kendra Trikuta Nagar and attended a free diabetes detection camp by examining the scores of diabetes patients and giving a public lecture in his old style and fashion that how to keep this life style disorder at bay.
On the occasion a free diabetic detection camp was also organized and the doctors rendered their free service in the camp by examining patients along with Dr Jitendra Singh who displayed extraordinary patience and examined the patients for four hours in the shade of a tent and also delivered a public lecture besides giving answers to various questions raised by patients who wanted to be more informative about this life style disorder.
In his lucid lecture Dr Jitendra Singh that in present age and times, the youth, by and large are found to be more stressed than elders. So much, so, he said that even children particularly in class 10+2 age group are not spared of this stress phenomena.
This paradoxical situation has also contributed to increasing prevalence of Diabetes, hypertension and related diseases at younger age and this indeed will be the major change before India during the next few years, he observed.
Dr Jitendra Singh said, it is a strange paradox that while till a few decades ago, stress was reported to be more among the middle aged, it is now affecting more and more of youngsters as early as in second and third decade of life. The paradox is that on the one hand , India is emerging as one of the youngest countries in the world with over 65 percent of its population below the age of 35 years and this future young potential is also vital to the rise of India as a world power in the next few years, on the other hand , more and more Indians at young age run the risk of suffering from long term diseases which may result in the loss of crucial man days and sometimes even incapacitation at the prime of their career of profession.
While new and more effective breakthroughs involving stem cells, gene, therapy, etc are being experimented each day, Dr Jitendra Singh said the basic `Mantra’ is to revert to the lifestyle followed by our ancestors which incorporated optimum dietary habits, adequate physical activity and freedom from stress.
Dr Jitendra said, another major target group requiring attention would be the womenfolk, particularly young pregnant women because if we succeed in strictly preventing and controlling “Gestational Diabetes Mellitus” occurring during pregnancy, this may be a breakthrough in halting the transmission of diabetes from generation to the next generation and may thus help in reducing the risk of diabetes in next generation children.
Speaker State Legislative Assembly Kavinder Gupta was also present during the camp while chief Patron of Shakti Kendra Yash Puri, its president Harshwardan, vice president Bharat Sharma, DP Arora general secretary. Rajat Mahan, media secretary attended it. Dr Jitendra Singh was also presented a memento by Bharat Sharma along with other office bearers of his organization.
