SRINAGAR, June 16: The Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) Retail Kerosene Oil and Cooperative Union today protested against the Government’s decision to exclude PHH (Priority Households) families from receiving subsidized kerosene oil, alleging that the move has harmed their livelihood and that they should be rehabilitated.

Scores of dealers assembled at Partap Park, Press Enclave and raised slogans in support of their demands. They said that on March 23, 2022, the administration published an order stating that Kerosene oil would be distributed solely to the impoverished (AAY/BPL) category and that households in the PHH (Priority Households) category would not be provided with Kerosene oil.
“The Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department in J&K had agreed to pay a meager commission on Kerosene sold to the PHH category, but the Administration has now decided not to provide Kerosene to the PHH category, leaving thousands of Kerosene distributors in a state of confusion,” president of the Joint Coordination Committee Retail Kerosene Oil and Cooperative Union, Javaid Ahmed Hakeem said.
He said that there are about 6,000 persons who earn their living by selling kerosene oil to people in various parts of Kashmir. “Nearly 2500 people are employed in Kashmir by the Government of J&K and are paid on a commission basis. This ordinance, which was passed in March, has had a significant negative impact on our livelihood. We demand its reversal,” Javeed said and threatened to continue protesting if their demands are not met.
