Khajuria warns against shifting of Bus Stand

JAMMU, May 13: Opposing the proposed move regarding shifting of Jammu Bus Stand in outskirts of the city, the BJP Legislative Party leader and MLA Jammu East, Ashok Khajuria today said that the Government should instead take effective steps to streamline traffic system and construct the much awaited flyovers in Jammu city.
Expressing his serious concern over the decision of Coalition Government to shift decades old General Bus Stand outside the city, Khajuria said there is no justification and logic that traffic congestion, jams and rush on roads of Jammu city is due to the passenger buses in the General Bus Stand situated on Jewel BC Road.
He said that the large number of passenger buses from different districts and tehsil headquarters beside from other States reach daily here to board and leave people in thousands. It also serves as base camp for the pilgrims of Mata Vaishno Devi and annual yatra of Baba Amarnath. The flow of these pilgrims and tourists plays very important role in promoting business in Raghunath Bazaar, Gumat, Purani Mandi, Kanak Mandi and many more adjoining areas where the livelihood of thousands of families is depends on visits of pilgrims and tourists. This is because Bus Stand is located at a central place and in shifting it to outskirts of the city will hit the trade as well as hotel business in the city, he added.
He said instead of shifting the Bus Stand there needs a proper coordination between Traffic Police and other agencies for smooth regulation of vehicular movement on the roads.
He warned that BJP will not allow shifting of the Bus Stand as it will hit the trade in Jammu city. BJP State press secretary Balbir Ram and Jammu district president Rajesh Gupta were also present in the press conference.
