JAMMU, June 3: In response to a question posed by Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) & J&K Prabhari Avinash Rai Khanna in Rajya Sabha on September 2013 regarding the benefits that had flown to the people of J&K from Article 370 of the Constitution, the reply inter-alia claimed that the said article has ensured extension of all those rights that were available to the citizens of India to the J&K people as well.
Avinash Rai Khanna in a statement strongly refuted the claim of alleged flow of benefit of equality to the people of J&K at par with the citizens of rest of the country. He said that the unfortunate and helpless refugees from PoK and Pakistan who settled in J&K are till date being treated as inferior class of the society of the State. All the socially beneficial reservations and other measures meant for the upliftment of SCs, STs and OBCs that have been adopted in the rest of the country do not automatically get extended to the SCs, STs and OBCs of the State, he added.
He said for every insignificant and inconsequential facility and help, the SCs, STs and OBCs have to struggle hard to move the unmovable valley centric State administration. This Valley centric administration is always at the look out to find loopholes and lacunas in the schemes meant for these people to deprive them of even these minor benefits.
Khanna said that it will be the endeavour of the Government and the party at the State level to see that the people’s rights in the State are brought at par with the rights of the people of the rest of the country in letter and spirit.
