Kharge, Rahul to discuss Congress preparedness in J&K for LS polls

Top PCC leaders, Mir to attend review meeting today

JAMMU, Dec 25: Senior Congress leaders from Jammu and Kashmir will meet the party high command, including AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi at the party headquarters in New Delhi tomorrow for a marathon meeting to discuss the current political and organizational situation in J&K Union Territory ahead of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Reliable sources in Congress circles told the Excelsior that main agenda of the significant meeting is to review preparedness of the party for the Parliamentary polls and discuss about possible alliance with the like- minded political parties in Jammu and Kashmir.
Besides, Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, AICC General Secretary (Organization) K C Venugopal; newly appointed Incharge J&K, Bharatsingh Solanki; AICC General Secretary Ghulam Ahmed Mir and AICC Joint Secretary Manoj Pandey will be present during the scheduled meeting.
J&K Pradesh Congress Committee President Vikar Rasool Wani, Working President Raman Bhalla, CWC Member Tariq Hameed Karra and several other senior leaders have already reached New Delhi while a few more left Jammu this evening for their participation in the meeting.
Sources said that present political scenario in J&K and ongoing organizational activities in the Union Territory will be discussed in detail during the tomorrow’s meeting, which is scheduled to begin at 3.30 pm and likely to continue till late evening.
The party high command will seek opinion of the Congress leaders from J&K for strategies to be adopted on the issues such as Statehood for Jammu Kashmir, alliance with like- minded parties for giving a united fight to BJP, sources added.
Besides the Lok Sabha poll preparations, sources said that possible strategy for next Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir and cornering the incumbent Government for its alleged failure on various fronts is also likely to be discussed by the Congress leaders.
According to the sources, the issue of groupism in J&K Pradesh Congress Committee may also figure in the meeting as some senior leaders are learnt to have conveyed their displeasure over working of a few JKPCC functionaries.
Pertinent to mention that following G A Mir’s elevation as AICC General Secretary, he is understood to have now more say in the party affairs in Jammu and Kashmir, which may not suit the incumbent JKPCC President Vikar Rasool Wani.
The Congress high command is likely to caution against groupism, issue necessary instructions for further strengthening the party in J&K and gear up its activities keeping an eye on the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, sources said.
Around two dozen senior Congress leaders, including former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, JKPCC Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, Balwan Singh, Ghulam Nabi Monga, Yogesh Sawhney, Shahnawaz Choudhary and others are going to attend the scheduled meeting tomorrow.
