NEW DELHI, Jan 31: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge today came out in support of Sonia Gandhi and accused the BJP and the media of twisting her statement.
He further alleged that it was the Narendra Modi government which had insulted the President by not inviting her to the inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament Building.
On his social media handle X, Kharge said, “Her Excellency, the President was insulted by the Modi government on the very day when she was not invited to the inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament Building”.
Stating that insulting anybody was not the culture of Congress, Kharge said, “The Indian National Congress and our leaders can never insult Her Excellency the President or any citizen”.
He alleged, “BJP has deliberately kept our present President and previous President away from both the temple of democracy and Ram temple”.
“Today the economic survey has shown the mirror of truth to the Modi government. In order to hide the bad state of economy, BJP leaders and a section of media are twisting the phrase of Sonia Gandhiji,” Kharge alleged.
He said the Congress had always respected the dignity of the office of Her Excellency the President.
Earlier, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra too had blamed the media for “twisting” her mother’s statement.
