Khatana to move apex court for rights of STs

JAMMU, Aug 11:  The J&K Gujjar Bakerwal Desh Youth body president Ch Nazakat Khatana has claimed that he will move to the Supreme Court of India for seeking protection of rights of Gujjars and Bakerwals in the State.
Talking to media-persons here today, the Gujjar leader said that Scheduled Tribes and especially the nomads are demanding regularization of their land in possession for the last more than six decades, but unfortunately, the Government was not paying any heed towards their plight.
He said the voice of the people is not being heard by those at the helm of affairs whether bureaucrats or those in the ruling coalition. Mr Khatana said the people of this community faced militancy and also helped our forces during the wars with Pakistan. They have given blood for the country but this demand or regularization of their land is being denied. Many of them are residing along the borders and also facing bullets from Pakistan side since long.
He demanded that Government should ensure proper use of funds meant for the STs and also provide them housing facility and regularize their land.  Shabir Ahmed, general secretary and Sajjad Ahmed also spoke on the occasion.
