Srinagar, May 17: Dilapidated condition of Khudwani-Tachloo road in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district is causing immense hardships to commuters as Government hasn’t undertaken any repair work on these roads after September 2014 floods washed away nearly its four kilometer stretch.
A seven kilometer stretch road from Khudwani  to Tachloo – which is the jugular vein between nearly 8 villages including Khudwani, Rahboora, Shamsipoora and Hushapoora – is in shambles as the tarmac has cracked and disappeared in so many places giving rise to cones and deep ruts and plumes of dust has left people with numerous respiratory tract infections.
The locals said that the roads have developed deep potholes and bumps at several places which are causing inconvenience to the commuters which has also become a cause of frequent traffic jam
The biggest casualties, though, are the sick on their way to hospitals. “We will be better off if the tar is peeled off, the locals said, adding that the dust blocks the drivers sight thereby increasing the risk of accidents.
When contacted, the concerned MLA, Abdul Majeed Larmi, said: “I have put the road under PMGSY (Prime Minister’s Grameen Sadak Yojna) which includes drainage and construction of sidewalks on the both sides. We are also planning to upgrade it to four lane road but it will take some time as major portion of the road was washed away by the floods. We also have to compensate the affected people.”
