WARWAN (KISHTWAR), Oct 2: During his 4-day-long tour of Marwah and Warwan areas, the Minister of State for Home & I&C Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo inaugurated the newly-created Police Posts at Afti, and Margi for providing security and law and order related facilities at the doorsteps of people residing in these far-flung areas.
The Minister was accompanied by the District Development Commissioner, Javed Ahmad Khan, DIG DKR, Ashkoor Wani, SSP Kishtwar, Sanjay Kotwal, ADDC Kishtwar, A S Chib, and other concerned district officers.
Addressing large gatherings at Afti and Inshan, the Minister stated that the opening of these police posts was a long pending demand of the people who had to travel long distances to settle their cases. He assured the people that all other demands projected by the people from time-to-time will be fulfilled on priority.
While seeking people’s wholehearted support to strengthen the hands of the present Government, Kichloo said that the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had taken several steps during his tenure to bring remote and inaccessible areas on the development map of the State. “Road connectivity in remote areas has been the top priority of State’s planning governance,” he said, adding that it was a prerequisite to take all development schemes to the people residing in these areas.
Appreciating the role of J&K Police in maintaining law and order in the State during difficult times, the Home Minister said that the police have given supreme sacrifices to protect the lives and properties of the people in the State, both during years of turbulence and natural calamities. He made specific mention of the efforts put in by J&K Police in rescuing people during the flood fury that hit the State last month.
The Minister urged the people to take full advantage of the newly-established Police Posts for settlement of their cases. He also directed DIG DKR to fully equip and deploy adequate manpower at these posts to make them fully functional.
Later, the Minister also dedicated the Wildlife Guest House at Afti to the people of the area. “The establishment of Guest House will go a long way in boosting tourism-related activities in the region,” he said and added that more tourism-related infrastructure would be created under Destination Development Scheme of the Union Ministry of Tourism.
Reiterating the need to connect far-flung area of Marwah with the rest of the State, the Minister said he has already prioritized the issue of completion of telecommunication towers in Marwah to make these functional. He added that he has already sanctioned release of Rs. 10 lakh out of his Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for purchase of generators to run these towers.
