KISHTWAR, July 30: Minister of State for Industries and Commerce, Home, R&B, H&UDD, Tourism and Culture Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo today called for a mass awareness campaign regarding diarrhoea control among children and asked the Health Department to ensure effective implementation of all the schemes on ground in letter and spirit.
The Minister was speaking on a special workshop organised by District Rural Health Society, Kishtwar to observe intensified diarrhoea control fortnight under NRHM. The theme of the programme is ” Zero Childhood Diarrhoeal Deaths”.
Mr. Kichloo said that there is a glaring lack of medical facilities in remote areas and thus such programmes should also be organised in these far-flung areas so that the common people get benefited. He also apprised the participants that the classes of newly established AMT School will start soon and construction of an additional 100 bedded indoor block besides renovation of maternity block will also be started shortly. He announced Rs. 10 lakh from his CDF for hospital development.
Earlier, CMO Kishtwar Dr. Sham Prasad Gupta gave elaborate presentation regarding the diarrhoea control programme in the district. He informed that out of 30 thousand children below five years of age almost 11 % die every year due to this disease. He said that under this intensive diarrhoea programme, mass awareness is being created through ASHA, Anganwari workers and PRI’s. Superintendent District Hospital Kishtwar Dr. Pervez spoke about the importance of personnel hygiene, sanitation and oral rehydration for effective check of this disease. Dr. Javed Iqbal and Dr. Sanjay Parihar also talked about the causes and prevention of the diseases.
