Jammu, Feb 8: National Conference Vice President and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday alleged that the target killing of two Punjab residents by unidentified militants in Srinagar last evening has exposed the government claims of normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir.
“We condemn the Srinagar terrorist attack in which two of our guests lost their lives,” Omar said.
Expressing grief with the families, he said that it is not enough to condemn the attack, adding, “such attacks in Srinagar have been happening continuously for the last two to three years.”
“Targeted killing in the heart of the city clears that the situation in Jammu and Kashmir is not like what the government claims.”
“They (govt) earlier claimed that the guns will fall silent soon after Article 370 revocation but in areas like Srinagar, Rajouri and Poonch, where terrorist attacks had almost come to an end, but it continued, which is a matter of concern,” said Abdullah.
However, on BJP’s claim of ‘ab ki baar 400 ke paar,’ the NC leader said, ‘the BJP this time is giving a slogan of winning 400 plus seats in Lok Sabha poll, but what do we have to do with that.”
“The lives of the people are to be secured first then they need to talk about 400 plus seats,” said the former CM.
“Situation in Jammu and Kashmir is not normal.
Often it is claimed of peace and normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir, it is said that terrorism is taking its last breath and then suddenly such attacks happen but those claims of normalcy turn silent,” he added.
The NC Vice President further said that they need to talk of 400 plus later but first have to answer the nation about the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, adding, “everytime they blamed us for the situation but it’s been years, we are out of power and they have direct control from Delhi.”
“The budget of Jammu and Kashmir is passed by the Centre, LG getting instructions from Delhi and if despite all this, they claim a double engine government, then it is a failure on their part,” said Abdullah. (Agencies)
