JAMMU, June 4: Gandhi Nagar police under ‘Operation Sanjeevani’ arrested kingpin of Dilbagh Gang and his associate along with 50 grams of heroin valuing Rs 5 lakh.
As per police sources, on reliable information about drugs smuggling by notorious drug peddlers, a team from Gandhi Nagar Police Station raised a vehicles checking point at Chhatri Chowk near Green Belt and signaled a car bearing registration number JK02BE-5454 to stop for checking.
On seeing police cops and being scared of getting caught, the driver accelerated the vehicle and escaped from the spot. Stinking something fishy, the cops chased the vehicle and intercepted it near some distance from the vehicles checking point.
During frisking, police recovered 50 grams of heroin from the possession of driver and his associate and arrested them.
The arrested persons have been identified as Dilbagh Singh, son of Janak Singh, a resident of Ward Number 4, Simble Camp and Harjeet Singh alias Jambo, son of late Gurmukh Singh, a resident of Nanak Nagar.
Both the arrested persons are hardcore criminals and large number of attempt to murder, stabbing and possession of illegal arms cases stands registered against them in different police stations of District Jammu. They were also detained under stringent Public Safety Act (PSA).
It is to mention that the arrested Dilbagh Singh is the kingpin of Dilbagh Gang, a gang active in the J&K State since 2009 and is involved in various criminal offences in J&K and Guwahati.
A fresh case under FIR Number 130/18 under Sections 8/21/22 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Gandhi Nagar Police Station against the accused and investigation of the case started to ascertain the source of the consignment.
Police team led by SHO Gandhi Nagar Inspector Sunil Singh Jasrotia and assisted by SI Rohit Bhagat made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas, SP South Sandeep Choudhary and SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta.
