In Sri Lanka’ authored by the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), in the presence of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of the Indian Armed Forces, General Anil Chauhan and First Lady Neelam Mishra, in New Delhi.
The 320-page book has been published by Prabhat Prakashan.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju congratulated the LG ‘for coming up with a wonderful and most-awaited book.’ He stated that some books are brought out of sheer passion while some books are authored for other reasons but the book by Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) is his ‘sheer call of the duty.’
Stating that it is ‘a must-read book,’ the Union Minister Kiren Rijiju mentioned that this book helps learn about many events and incidents regarding the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (L.T.T.E.) in Sri Lanka. He paid tributes to soldiers who made the supreme sacrifices for the mission given to them. Highlighting the need to remember the sacrifices and contributions of the jawans of the Indian Army, Kiren Rijiju saluted the LG and all the Indian Army jawans.
Speaking on the occasion, the LG mentioned that the idea of writing the book struck his mind to highlight the contributions and sacrifices of the soldiers who took part in the war against LTTE in Sri Lanka under his command as the head of the brigade. He stated that the book is dedicated to the brave soldiers and their family members who bore the pain of separation from their fathers, husbands and sons with equanimity, of whom some fighting on the front did not return and laid down their lives in their mission.
The book, authored by the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, is a firsthand account of the induction of his Brigade into Sri Lanka on 11 October 1987 to form part of the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) and its launch into fierce battles against the LTTE.
