Kisan Sabha demands district status for Billawar

JAMMU, Aug 19: Kisan Sabha organized a one day convention at Sachara, Billawar wherein farmers from various areas of Billawar, Macchedi, Mahanpur and Ramkote tehsils participated.
The convention was presided over by Punnu Ram Jamodia, Master Raghunath Singh and Rasal Singh while Hari Chand Jalmeria, Kisan Sabha President was the chief guest and creation of Billawar district remained the main issue in the convention.
Speaking on the occasion, Jalmeria expressed concern over effect of ongoing lockdown on farmers of Billawar as thousands of them had gone for labour work in rest of the country where they were struck and faced unprecedented hardships and presently most of these farmers have no job to supplement their income.
Jalmeria also raised the monkey menace which has created havoc in the Billawar villages as the monkeys destroy maize, paddy and almost all the crops.
He said due to monkey menace farmers are forced to leave much of the land uncultivated so the government should take some effective measures in this regard.
Jalmeria held all successive governments responsible for ignoring the demand of district status to Billawar and asked the union government to immediately create Billawar district with headquarters at Billawar.
He also demanded completion of road connecting Billawar-Bani via Katli-Marhoon-Dhaggar and also connecting this road with Banjal Bhatwal-Sadrota- Macchedi-Badnota-Lohai Malhar.
Chairman of Billawar Block Development Council, Ashok Kumar offered full support in struggle for creation of Billawar district.
Jatinder Singh Bhadwal said that proposal of construction of Ujh Multi Purpose Project Dam is ill conceived for lack of sufficient water and it may disturb the local residents.
Pardeep Singh Jamwal was guest of honour.
Sarpanch Makhan Jamodia, Joginder Singh, Jyoti Parkash Gour, Master Raghunath Singh, Rasal Singh, Thakur Dass, Hukam Chand Jalmeria and others also spoke on the occasion.
