Kissan Development Board’s concern over scarcity of drinking water

KISHTWAR, Aug 20: Expressing grave concern over the scarcity of drinking water in Kishtwar district, Kissan Development Board in its meeting today held under the chairmanship of Shamsher Singh Bhandari its senior member urged the Government to take immediate steps in redressing the problem of the people.
The meeting said in entire Kishtwar district, people are facing acute scarcity of drinking water and the authorities at the helm of affairs are totally sleeping over the issue.
Mr Bhandari, while addressing the meeting demanded that concrete steps be taken to ensure the drinking water supply in the district by taking up new schemes and projects in hand.
He said the concerned engineering Department over the years has failed in this regard with the result the people have been put to many hardships due to scarcity of drinking water during the Summer season. In some areas people have to fetch water from a distance of over one kilometer, he added.
Mr Bhandari sought immediate intervention of PHE, Flood Control and Irrigation Minister, Sham Lal Sharma in the matter and urged him to issue instructions to his subordinate officers to prepare a blue print for the new water supply schemes in the district so that the problem is redressed once for all.
Farooq Ahmed Tapal, Tilak Raj Shan and Akshay Kumar were among other leaders who addressed the meeting.
