KALAKOTE, Sept 19: A social and political activist, Abdul Gani Kohli today completed his ten-day tour of several flood and landslide affected areas of Kalakote constituency and took stock of situation in the area where State administration and Army are trying to provide some relief to the people.
During his visit, Kohli visited Chatman, Dalogri, Bindi Jugrial, Nalooria, Triath, Sandpit, Moolah and other areas and met the affected people who sought his help to get early and adequate relief assistance from the administration.
Kohli interacted with many people and delegations from several villages that narrated their plight as most of their homes have either been fully damaged or need major repair.
He was also apprised about the plight of the Bakerwal families who are still missing along with their cattle in Kashmir valley. “There is immediate need to launch a search for the Bakerwals who had gone to South Kashmir meadows with their livestock, as families have no information about their whereabouts”, he said.
Kohli demanded immediate release of financial aid to the people who have lost their homes during the flash floods and landslides in the Kalakote area and other parts of the Rajouri district.
“Though Indian Army and administration is doing everything to provide help to the people, but there is need to speed up the process as winter season is approaching fast”, he said.
He highlighted that in absence of communication system and due to tough terrain some areas, where nature has shown its cruel face more as compared to other parts of the State, are still inaccessible for administration and media.
