Kolkata horror: CBI conducts lie test on main accused Sanjay Roy

KOLKATA, Aug 25: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday conducted lie detection test on Sanjay Roy, prime accused in Kolkata doctor’s murder and rape, at the Presidency Jail at Alipore even as investigators of the federal agency claimed recovering “substantial material” during day-long searches at the office and other premises of RG Kar Hospital’s ousted principal Sandip Ghosh and others in connection with alleged financial irregularities since 2021.
“Bahut Kuch Mila hai (we have got substantial material),” said a CBI official after the searches which started at 7 am.
The CBI began search operations at more than 15 locations in Kolkata, Howrah and MN 24 Parganas including that of Sandip Ghosh, former superintendent Sanjay Vashish, former chief of forensic department Debashish Shome and business supplier Biplab Singha’s houses and offices. The search operations continued for 12 hours.
Shome also appeared at the Nizam Palace after being called on Sunday evening, sources said.
The Calcutta High Court on Friday asked the federal agency, which was already investigating the doctor’s murder, to also probe the alleged financial scam, transferring the case from Kolkata Police.
Former hospital superintendent Akhtar Ali had moved court and alleged that medical waste was being smuggled to the neighbouring country and two Bangladeshi national Rabi and Pachu were involved in it.
Meanwhile, the protesting Kolkata medics on Sunday demanded the resignation of city Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal and his questioning by the Central Bureau of Investigation as part of the federal agency’s ongoing probe into the murder and rape of a doctor in R G Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.
The demand for action against the police chief was voiced on the 17th day of a cease-work of junior medics who have refused to attend Outdoor Patient Department (OPD) over their demands of justice for their murdered colleague and security at work place.
The agitating medics announced that their cease-work at the OPDs in government-run institutions across West Bengal would continue till the time there is visible progress in the investigation.
The medics have also called a mass convention on Monday at Calcutta Medical College and Hospital in Central Kolkata.
The protesting doctors also demanded immediate suspension of ousted RGKH principal Sandip Ghosh, who has been facing daily questioning by the CBI for alleged lapses in the murder case alleged financial irregularities in the troubled hospital since 2021.
Meanwhile, processions were taken out by people including from third genders, TV artistes and former Army and police personnel to seek justice for the murdered medic and ensuring a safe atmosphere for the women in the state. (UNI)
