JAMMU, Aug 3: Jammu-based Komal Singh Manhas became the first woman journalist of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to receive the prestigious ‘Bharat Ke Anmol’ Award during a glittering ceremony at the Dr Ambedkar International Centre in Janpath New Delhi.
News18 India Bureau Chief Komal Singh accepted the coveted award, bestowed on her for working for nine months during her two pregnancies besides for best coverage of encounters at Sidhra, Sunjwan, Poonch and Rajouri.
“As for me, I have been passionate about news reporting. I am grateful for being chosen for this prestigious award. I now feel motivated to do more,” Komal said while receiving the award.
‘Bharat Ke Anmol’, is one of its kind National Award, acknowledges and celebrates eminent personalities in India who have not only risen above the rest in their field of speciality but have also done yeoman service to the society and to the disadvantaged. The award ceremony, a prestigious initiative that aims to empower visionaries and encourage innovators. The event served as a symbol of acknowledgment and appreciation for individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to society, culture, arts, sciences, entrepreneurship, and beyond.
Among the eminent personalities honoured were Padmasree Dr Vijay Kumar Shah (a prominent Social Activist), Dr T S Rao (Father of Vaccines), Dr SM Khan (Doordarshan Director-General, News), Air Commodore Rashid Zafar Qureshi (Kargil veteran), Sunita Duggal MP Haryana, Mir Mothesham (former Mr World silver medallist) and Chandrakala Padia (eminent scholar).
