LEH, Nov 25: Aimed at assessing the future strategies related to Pashmina production, processing and exploring ways for value addition, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of Executive Councillor for Education and Sheep Husbandry Konchok Stanzin here today.
The meeting was attended by Councillor Korzok Gyurmet Dorjey, District Sheep Husbandry Officer Leh Dr Tundup Namgyal and Chairman All Changthang Pashmina Growers Cooperative Society Dorjay Stanzin.
DSHO, Leh Dr Namgyal briefed the meeting about the future promotional plans and said that the procurement process of new Pashmina Dehairing Machine is almost completed and funds is also available with the department to meet the cost of machine.
The meeting after detailed deliberations on various issues, took certain decisions which includes hiring of a textile consultant to guide in running the Pashmina garment fabrication plant in Leh. The meeting also decided to prepare a DPR for installation of additional machines so as to make final and finished products in Leh itself. Likewise, a 100 Kg of Pashmina will be processed and spun during winter months on trial basis to evaluate its quality and future prospective of value addition. It was further decided to conduct awareness camps for Pashmina Goat Breeders to make them aware about maintaining the purity of raw Pashmina. Setting up of a channel mechanism to ascertain the important data was also finalized.
