JAMMU, Aug 1: The Commissioner Secretary PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control Department Dr Pawan Kotwal inspected water supply schemes delinking of Saruinsar Lake and Mansar Lake being executed by PHE Department under STF (Special Task Force). The cost of the scheme is Rs 723.59 lakh and Rs 373 lakh respectively.
Dr Pawan Kotwal was apprised that WSS delinking of Mansar-Saruinsar lakes is likely to be commissioned by mid of September particularly the intake structure at Dab Chilla(Saruinsar). He also emphasized for immediate completion of protection work at Dab Chilla(Saruinsar) & other balance works such as laying of rising mains, gravity mains and their interconnections. The Mechanical Engineers were directed to complete their part on account of installation of pumping machinery so that both the schemes can be completed and commissioned well in time.
With the commissioning of both the schemes the water supply presently fed from both the lakes will be delinked which will avoid the reduction of water level in the lakes. There was persistent demand of the local leadership as well as general public of the area to delink both the lakes which are spots of major tourist attraction in Jammu province.
Dr Kotwal also instructed the Executive Engineer PHE Rural Division Jammu and Ex. Engineer PHE Division Udhampur to install the sign boards on both the lakes mentioning the salient features as well as their levels. Udhampur and other officers of PHE Department.
