KOZHIKODE, Dec 29: An array of traditional crafts from North Eastern part of the country were on display at an exhibition
began here today.
Some of the major attractions at the two-week Craft Bazar were cane and boom crafts, Handloom and artistic textile, wood carving, embroidery, jewellery, brass and bell metal, basketry.
The hand woven fabrics with rich and symbolic ornamentation of Assam the eye catching tribal ornaments made from cane, bamoo, glass beads, silver as well as the magnificent carpets using dragon, geometric and floral motifs of Arunachal Pradesh were the other attractions.
The objective of the exhibition was to promote sales, increase awareness in favour of handicrafts, expose craftsmen to the market and launch new products and designs for trian and promotion, the organizers said.
District Collector K V Mohan Kumar inaugurated the fair jointly organized by North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Developlment Corporation Ltd with the financial assistance extended by the Development Commissioner for Handcrafts, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.
