JAMMU, Nov 26: Prominent Kashmiri Pandits including former president All India Kashmiri Samaj and its ex general secretary Puran Pathwari today cautioned the displaced Pandits about the misinformation being created by certain elements regarding return of displaced families to Kashmir.
In a joint statement they said the issue of fake news surrounding the return of 4,600 families to Kashmir is highly sensitive, particularly for the Kashmiri Pandit community. It’s essential to clarify the situation and counter misinformation promptly and effectively, they added.
They said to discuss the issue a community activists’ meeting was held here recently in which Dr Romesh Raina, former president AIKS, categorically stated that these claims are misleading and do not reflect the ground realities.
Dr Raina reiterated that, while we wholeheartedly support the safe and dignified return of Kashmiri Pandits and other displaced communities to their homeland, it is imperative that such sensitive issues are addressed truthfully and responsibly. The dissemination of unverified information creates false hopes, confusion, and often leads to further marginalization of the affected communities.
He said, as of now post the takeover by the newly elected Government in the UT, there has been a sudden explosion in terrorist activities denting the confidence of the displaced people of any hope to return to their homeland.
Moreover the entire security system of the UT is battling today to get back the control on the situation. He said no comprehensive resettlement plan ensuring safety, livelihood, and infrastructure for the return of displaced families has been framed till date.
Dr Raina said that the process of return, if initiated, must be transparent, consultative, and considerate of the displaced community’s needs and concerns including their active participation in such decisions.
In the meeting, the issue of demolition drive at various places in Jammu was also discussed that has affected the livelihood of many of the displaced KP brethern. Dr Raina appealed to the UT authorities to provide alternate place and support to the affected families for their re-establishment.
