KPC, ASKPC criticize Govt for giving legitimacy to Geelani

JAMMU, Oct 22: Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC) while strongly reacting to statement of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah by making himself answerable to Syed Ali Shah Geelani’s dictates, accused him of setting a dangerous precedence by according legitimacy to separatist leader’s extra constitutional authority.
In a statement issued here today, KPC chief Kundan Kashmiri said that Omar Abdullah being a Chief Minister is expected to act as the custodian of the Constitution on whose name he has taken the oath. By giving legitimacy to Geelani he has hurt the sentiments of the peace loving and nationalist people of the state. Kashmiri said one is astonished to see that why such a hue and cry is made over the construction of road to holy cave of Amarnath by the separatists and why not question of ecology was raised while constructing the other roads to Valley. Justifying the construction of road to holy cave he said this would lead to smooth conduct of yatra in future as every year many precious human lives are lost during the yatra period.
Meanwhile All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference (ASKPC) president H L Chatta has also strongly condemned the statement of Geelani over the construction of road and his threat to call strike after Eid.
In a statement issued here today Chatta said Geelani should keep his mouth closed as he has no locus standi to interfere into the religious affairs of Hindus. He alleged that the separatist leader was misleading the people on the issue. He also expressed surprise the explanation given to Chief Minister to separatist leader and said this way the Government was giving undue importance to Geelani.
