KPs’ concern over encroachment of shrines land in Valley

JAMMU, Oct 29: A meeting of All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference (ASKPC) was held today at the instance of various Kashmiri Pandit Organisations, Te mple Management committees and trusts under the chairmanship of its president, Advocate Ravinder Raina.
The meeting expressed serious concern over the failure of State Government in safeguarding the symbols of faith for Kashmiri Pandits in Valley where temples, shrines and their land is free for land mafia and encroachers.
The meeting said though the Government has long back passed the Distress Sale Act but the administration has failed to implement it in letter and spirit giving a free hand to encroachers of the property of religious places to land mafia.
The meeting said that though the Committee has number of times demanded safeguarding of religious places, temples, cremation grounds and their land as well as the private property of displaced people left in Valley, the authorities failed to pay any attention to it.
The meeting decided to take up the issue with the Government and also will start the renovation and repairs of Sheetal Nath shrine in Srinagar. It said the renovation of Srinagar temples will be taken up in first instance which will be followed by the rest of Valley.
The meeting further said that some management committees and trusts of the Valley are behaving in such a manner as if it is their personnel property and as if they are not accountable to community.
Prominent who attended the meeting included senior KP leader and president, AIKPC, H N Jatto, B L Jalali, D N Koul of Rainawari Action Committee, R K Jogi, ZDPC, Virender Taku, M K Koul, B L Bhan, O N Koul, R K Dhar, Bansi Lal Raina and Ashok Dhar.
