KPS concerned over rumors about return formula

JAMMU, Sept 29: The Kashmiri Pandit Sabha (KPS) Jammu has taken note of the rumours doing the rounds for the past few months regarding the return and rehabilitation scheme envisaged by the MHA for resettlement of the Kashmiri Pandit migrants back in the Valley. The rumours are based on the media reports that emanated after a group of KP migrants comprising of some individuals and representatives of some KP organizations met with the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah in February at Delhi. The unsubstantiated rumours give detailed descriptions about the proposed format of townships and even the kind of accommodation proposed to be constructed.
The Kashmiri Pandits who have been waiting to return and resettle back in the land of their forefathers for the past 30 years are once again in a state of anxiety over this issue since no mainstream organizations of the community have been taken into confidence before finalizing any return proposal or package. Inspite of repeated requests by the Kashmiri Pandit Sabha Jammu and some other representative organizations having elected representatives, through their memoranda submitted time and again neither the GOI nor the State Government have engaged with the community representatives till now resulting in a sense of hurt and dejection.
The Sabha president recalls that in the year 2017 the then home minister, Raj Nath Singh along with late Arun Jaitley and Dr. Jitendra Singh in a meeting with the community representatives had committed that no proposal on this vital issue would be finalized until and unless the community organizations were consulted. The ministers had also promised that an Advisory Committee comprising of representatives of the community would be constituted by the MHA which would be taken on Board before finalizing any return proposal in order to arrive at a near consensus formula to the satisfaction of the community and which would ensure return to the valley with dignity and honor and with full sense of security.
The Kashmiri Pandit Sabha Jammu once again requests the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah and Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha to constitute the Committee to finalize a pragmatic plan which would have the backing of the community and would be implemented in a time bound manner by adequate funding by the Government of India. This will also avoid any bickering or acrimony which could arise in case the community is not taken into confidence beforehand.
