JAMMU, Dec 11: Panun Kashmir Executive Council meeting was held today at its office at Jammu. The meeting was presided over by Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, president, Panun Kashmir and was among others attended by Virender Raina, national spokesperson, Upinder Kaul, its general secretary, Kamal Bagati, organising secretary, Vijay Qazi, NM Gadroo and Sameer Bhat. The meeting discussed the present socio-political scenario viz.a.viz Kashmiri Pandit community. The members were also briefed about the organisational programmmes held during the last quarter.
Sameer Bhat, convenor, Panun Kashmir Youth in his address raised a number of issues pertaining to the youth of the community. He sought implementation of the PM employment package without conditionalities for the youth. A lot of time has been lost in the beaurocratic hassles so far as this package is concerned. There needs to be a time frame for its implementation while a lot of youth have gone over age, he added.
Virender Raina, national spokesperson made a vivid presentation on the human rights violations suffered by the Kashmiri Pandit community over the last three decades. He said that the terror acts on behalf of the terrorist organisations created havoc with the life of the minority community in the Valley. The KP community raised the issues of genocide, ethnic cleansing and mass exodus at all important levels and exhibited resilience in all walks of life during the period of exile.
Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, president, Panun Kashmir in his address said that the Kashmiri Pandit community has a number of challenges to meet. While on the one hand it has the issue of dispersal to tackle with on the other hand it needs to protect its cultural moorings. The political uncertainty in regard to the settlement of the community in their homeland in Kashmir is a hard reality which needs to be addressed by the socio- political activists of the community. The Pandit community has its first right as the original inhabitants of Kashmir over the land of the Valley. They are the first as well as the natural stakeholders in the Kashmir imbroglio. We impress upon the Government of India to initiate a structured dialogue with the leadership of the community in order to address their core concerns and also to redress their grievances regarding a number of serious and sensitive issues. In order to instil confidence in the displaced community the Government of India needs also to initiative various confidence building measures such as., economic package for displaced traders, compensaton to the people whose lands and properties have been usurped, grant of balance of ex-gratia payment to the fire sufferers in the Valley and the passage of all important Shrines and Temples Bill which has been unanimously persued by the community for the last one decade.
